IS MORE TECHNOLOGY GOOD FOR STUDENTS? part 1

The technological advances have been a boon for us.We cannot imagine even a day of our lives without the use of computers and mobile phones. We would not be able to do many of our day to day activities without these gadgets. When we come to students there are advantages as well as disadvantages.

ADVANTAGES:-

1.EXTRA INFORMATION:

These gadgets like computers and mobile phones are very much useful when it comes studies because when students do not understand what the teacher tells they can always search online for that topic. These gadgets are also useful when students need to complete some assignments or home works and need some information or data.

2.BEING CONNECTED:

Computers and mobile phones are invaluable when it comes to being connected.Even in the lives of students these gadgets are very much useful for being connected with friends and relatives through Facebook, twitter, whatsapp and other similar social media.

3.REDUCING GLOBAL WARMING:

Computers can be used to reduce the use of papers because when students submit home works online there will be no use or very little use of papers which results in reduction in cutting of trees which can help in reducing global warming.

SHOULD STUDENTS SELECT THE SUBJECTS THEY STUDY?

For a long time the subjects that are to be studied by students are selected by others. The result students study the subjects which they do not like. And when they study the subjects which they do not like they end up studying for the sake of teachers or parents. At present in SSC curriculum the subjects are Telugu,Hindi,English,Maths,Science(after IV divided into Physics and Biology),Social.Till X class students learn a little of everything in this subjects. But later in higher studies students choose the main subject they want to study. Why can't this be done from young age?So that students study the subjects they love not the subjects they are forced to study. For example I love Maths,Science(both Physics and Biology)and English. But I have to study Telugu,Hindi and Social.Which I study for the sake of exams. As the marks I get in these subjects influences my total.WOULD IT NOT BE BETTER IF STUDENTS LEARN EVERYTHING OF SOMETHING AND THE BASICS OF EVERYTHING RATHER THAN SOMETHING OF EVERYTHING?For example if a student likes maths we can let him learn maths in depth and just the basics of others rather than making him to learn all subjects superficially. This is also beneficial to the society because we will be having experts in all subjects and everyone will be knowing the basics of  all subjects. But when we analyze the situation where the student is made to learn all subjects superficially. The society will not be having experts in any field but many people who are superficially educated in all subjects.IS IT NOT FOR THE STUDENTS TO DECIDE BECAUSE THEY ARE THE ONES WHO STUDY??????????????????????

ARE PUNISHMENTS NEEDED?

Punishments are given to make students obey. But they are also very dangerous as many students attempt or commit suicides because of the punishments given by their teachers. At present they cause so much pain and suffering to the students. Now a days teachers use fear to make children study. From the young age of four or five years (LKG or UKG) children are made to be afraid of punishments because when they do not complete homework they are told if you do the same next time you will be thrown into a dark room or you will be beaten. But is this necessary? Can’t they be taught with love and affection? When they grow they learn the same rule “FEAR MAKES PEOPLE WORK”.

When it comes to teenagers punishments take the form of humiliation. As teenagers are emotionally sensitive they take it to the extremes of suicide. Teachers defend this by quoting"SPARE THE ROD SPOIL THE CHILD" but does sparing the rod spoil them to the extent of committing suicide???????. Even laws have been passed to stop this brutal crime of punishing children of silly reasons  .There have also been incidents where students died because of punishments given to them by their teachers for silly reasons. For example I read about a boy named anonymous who was given the punishment of 350 sit-ups for coming 10 min late after the lunch break. He died after the 256th sit up!!!!!!!!!. In the light of this incident are these punishments that necessary?????????? Can’t they be replaced by love????????

HOMEWORKS boon or bane?

I do not see the use of home works or of writing class works because they not only take away lot of time from the students life but also put stress on them. When students do not complete their home works they are punished severely. This may also be the reason for the growing obesity cases among students because when there are a lot of home works students skip the little time they for exercising. This is also the main reason for the falling standards of morals among today's youth because these damn home works take away the little time teenagers get to spend with family. This is also the cause for students becoming slow learners because when students are given a lot of  writing work they do not find enough time to learn as their basics are not strong because of this they become slow learners. Some people defend this by saying the writing works improve the students writing skills and handwriting. But in this age of internet and computers there is no use of handwriting as what can be written can be typed.

Teachers defend writing saying that "WRITING ONCE IS EQUAL TO READING A HUNDRED TIMES" but instead of wasting time on writing students can spend their time learning. What teachers fail to understand is that the age has changed and writing is fast becoming a thing of past.this home works and so called assignments also take away the the time students spend reading book, newspapers, spending time with buddies etc.The question that still haunts us is ARE HOME WORKS NEEDED???????????????
